01 / ESCAPE POD / SCHEMATIC

Off the pad in minutes.

There are evacuations you can walk out of, and there are evacuations you cannot. The Escape Pod is built for the second kind. Six to eight people get in, the hatch seals, and within a few minutes the cabin is climbing, clear of the fire, the flood, the storm, or the breach they were standing in. It does not matter much whether the trouble was weather or somebody else’s doing. The job is to get those people off the ground while there is still time to do it.

USE

It can sit in the container until the day you need it

Between uses it lives in the deployment container, with the arms folded and the envelope packed down. Neighbors do not have to know it is there. If the site wants it harder to notice, the hull and the envelope can take armor and a stealth finish. The cage that keeps an electrical pulse off the cabin is part of the machine, not an add-on. When the door does open, the climb is the way out.

WEATHER

Storm, flood, fire

A stairwell fills with smoke, a street fills with water, a storm sits on the building. Walking out stops being a plan. The pod is the other door, the one that goes up instead of out.

BREACH

Security extract

A perimeter fails, a motorcade stops moving, the people who were supposed to leave on the ground cannot. If the pod is already on the site, they can be in it and climbing while the rest of the plan is still being argued.
